- Summary
- Volume 2 has twenty-five spirituals presented with notations and words for singing aloud and, possibly, playing on a C recorder or any other melodic instrument. Full and double page block printings visualize and expand these musical testimonies to the "genius of the enslaved Blacks that allowed them to remain human and creativer through adversity." Bryan's five-page commentary on the sources, history and nature of spirituals is an invaluable part of this companion volume to his other splendid collection of spirituals "Walk together children"(1974). Presents familiar and lesser-known spirituals including "Walk Together Children," "Little David Play on Your Harp," "I Got Shoes," and others
