- Summary
- Amos A. Phelps writes to John Angell James about the way Oberlin College is being represented through public speeches in Britain. Offering extracts from other people, Phelps compares Oberlin College with a few other institutions, such as Dartmouth College at Hanover, N.H., Bowdoin College at Brunswick, Maine, and Oneida Institute at Utica, New York, on the subject of the education of scholars regardless of color. On the last two pages, marked ́Private,́ Phelps writes about the notion of ́Christian perfectioń at Oberlin, as well as the subject of ́the resolution on church actioń published through a recent convention. He says that, in spite of the misrepresentation propagated by Garrisońs associates, the clergy is a significant part of the abolitionist movement
