- Note
- "This Popular Edition has been prepared to remove the features which limited the usefulness of Trench's original work. Nearly one-third of the Notes on the Parables, as it first made its appearance, consisted of notes in Greek, Latin, French, and German. These have been carefully translated and evaluated. Those judged valuable have been interwoven with the text or retained as notes in the English language. The detailed accounts of erroneous views and their refutations have been largely omitted. While the body of the work is given in very nearly the author's own words, those responsible for the preparation of this issue have not hesitated to make alterations in the interest of simplicity and lucidity. The result of this extensive study and revision is a volume which is more readily usable than the original, while it retains all the scholarliness of the larger edition."--Preface
