Note
  • One of the first books printed in Puerto Rico, and probably the second poetical work printed there
  • The literary format of this work varies throughout. A letter to Andrés Level de Goda is signed: Leandro de Uldesage. This is followed by a short poem (by one José Maria Guerra de la Vega) and then a more lengthy poem. Next are 70 separate annotations about the poetry, and the work ends with a letter to Uldesage which is signed: Level
  • Authorship is based on: Amor y Vázquez, José. "Conflictividad ideológica, diálogo textual: El tapaboca (Puerto Rico, 1812)." (In: Nueva revista de filología hispánica 36 (1988): 1149-1158). This article states that Leandro de Uldesage is probably a pseudonym used by Andrés Level de Goda
