- Summary
- Presents information on the geography, history, economy, and people of the West Indies. Includes a chronology, recipes, project ideas, and more. This eleven-volume series explores every dimension of this beautiful and historic region. Five volumes of this series treat the four largest islands and their nations: The Dominican Republic and Haiti (both of which share the island of Hispaniola); Cuba, the largest of the four islands known as the Greater Antilles; Jamaica; and Puerto Rico. Three other volumes take up Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, and the Bahamas. The Caribbean's smallest islands are treated in two volumes, the first devoted to the Windward Islands and the second to the Leeward Islands. The series is completed by a statistical volume. These lavishly illustrated books survey the human and physical geography of the Caribbean, along with its economic and historical development. Geared to the needs of students and teachers, each volume contains a glossary of terms, a chronology, and ideas for class reports. And each volume contains a recipe section featuring tasty, easy-to-prepare dishes popular in the countries dealt with. Each volume is indexed, and contains a bibliography featuring books and Web sources for further information
