Summary

Robert F. Martineau expresses his satisfaction at having had the opportunity to meet William Lloyd Garrison, and thanks him for his "very sympathetic & encouraging words", stating that it sooths the "discouragement at the apathy which meets us in our agitation" in England. Martineau apologetically requests that Garrison deliver an address to their antislavery society, stating that while he is embarrased to make this request as he is aware that Garrison's objective in his journey to England was to rest, their need is great, and that Garrison can help them more "than any living man", and that they are in need of his assistance in "fighting against the indifference & moral sloth" of the "influential classes"
