- Summary
- A. A. Phelps writes to D. H. Emerson to recommend his brother in law, Moore, as a new minister for Emersońs society. He then discusses the ́collision between the state and national Anti-Slavery societies.́ Phelps says that Emersońs County Board favor the position of the national societies but he fears attempts will be made in the upcoming county convention in New Bedford to undo it. Phelps considers ́the Parent Committee [which means the national society?] in the right.́ He says the State Board want to crush the Massachusetts Abolitionist [which is a periodical?] ́by shutting out of the state the agents of the Parent Societý and to make the Massachusetts Society anti-orthodox and promulgate non-resistance, no-government, etc.. He criticized Garrison and the Board. A note beneath the letter [by Maria Weston Chapman?] criticizes Phelps for putting forth against ́his brethren of the board,́ and addresses the accusation of anti-orthodox
