  • This edition of Virgil was issued under a false date of imprint, not in 1757, as stated on the title page, but likely ca. 1770 by Baskerville himself. Gaskell and others theorize that the printer issued this facsimile as a forgery of his 1757 Virgil in order to capitalize on the popularity of that earlier edition. This later Virgil is differentiated typographically (the "J" in the imprint falls to the left of the "B" in Birminghamiae on the title page; the subscriber list has 24 additional names), as well as by the laid paper stock on which it is printed
  • Signatures: pi1 a-b℗ø A-3H́þ
  • Error in pagination: p. 224 misnumbered 424
