- Those who do not know their opponent's arguments do not completely understand their own. The United States and many other countries are heavily dependent on oil for their energy needs. As economic growth increases around the globe, nations are demanding steadily increasing amounts of oil. However, while the world's demand for oil has grown rapidly, its ability to extract and refine oil has grown less quickly. When the oil supply in one part of the world is disrupted, it is becoming increasingly difficult to compensate by getting it from somewhere else.
