- Henry Vincent (the English Chartist and anti-slavery activist) writes William Lloyd Garrison stating that he had written George Thompson following the death of Thompson's son to inquire of the state of his health, but had received no response. Vincent inquires on the state of Garrison's health, and requests that he make inquiries into that of Thompson, as he would like to know if they are both still planning on travelling to Europe. Vincent states that his trip to America has been a pleasant one, and that he is giving lectures "with great success nearly every night", including six given while in Richmond
